UK weather: Britons welcome hottest day of the year as temperatures are predicted to reach 33°C | UK News
People across the country are seething about what could be the hottest day of the year so far as temperatures are expected to hit 33 degrees Celsius (91.4 degrees Fahrenheit).
Parts of the UK are due to be hotter than the Maldives and the Bahamas, with warm sunny weather expected to last through the weekend.
The Met Office said that in central, southern and eastern England, temperatures will soar on Monday afternoon as the latest heat wave continues.
Currently, the country’s record high for 2022 is 32.7C (90.9F), seen at Heathrow on June 17.
On Sunday, Scotland and Northern Ireland have had their hottest days of the year so farrecorded at 27.3C (81.1F) and 24.3C (75.7F), respectively.
Met Office forecaster Greg Dewhurst explained that high pressure is expected to “dominate” on Monday, particularly in England and Wales.
He added: “In Scotland and Northern Ireland it will be a bit hazy with thick clouds moving in from the northwest, possibly bringing some rain.”
“But for most of us it will be a dry and sunny day, with peaks between morning and 20 degrees, with parts of Central, South and East England possibly reaching The highest is 33C.
“So it’s very likely that tomorrow will be the hottest day of the year ever, it will definitely be on par with the existing record, maybe more.”
While many will be delighted to see temperatures soar, Mr Dewhurst has warned that it will also be “very warm” overnight, remaining at 20-year lows in some cities.
“So many people may have an uncomfortable night,” he warned.
Sky News weather producer Joanna Robinson added that record weather could be witnessed over the weekend.
“Currently, temperatures are likely to hit lows to mid-thirties in the South by the end of next week, but there is now a 30 per cent chance the UK maximum temperature record will be beaten, at 38, 7C (102F),” she said.
“There is now a worrying 10% that 40C (104F) will be reached in the UK for the first time.”

Temperature alerts are available for some areas
In fact, temperatures are expected to reach the point where health heat warnings have been issued for some parts of the country.
People in the affected areas have been advised to cover their windows and check on vulnerable people and the elderly.
The UK Health Security Agency and the Met Office have issued a level 3 alert for the East of England, the South East and London.

Level 2 warnings have been issued for the South West, East Midlands, West Midlands, North West and Yorkshire regions and the Humber regions.
A level 2 warning is issued when there is a “high probability” of the forecasted conditions, while a level 3 means there is a “90% probability”.
Alerts will be issued from 9 a.m. Monday to 9 a.m. Friday.
By the end of the week, the heatwave looks set to ease as a cold front begins to roll in.
