It’s been more than two years since Dustin Poirier had a chance to fight for a title.
Since losing the lightweight championship to Khabib Nurmagomedov on September 7, 2019, the UFC men’s 5th heavyweight boxer has had a win over Dan Hooker and two fights against Conor McGregor. On Saturday, he had a chance to regain his lightweight belt when he fought Charles Oliveira in UFC 269 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Oliveira will be tasked with her first title defense since winning the title on May 15. Oliveira beat Michael Chandler via TKO in the second round to claim the vacant belt. Oliveira is ranked as the number 8 male boxer in the UFC.
Oliveira vs. Poirier won’t be the only title fight of the night. Amanda Nunes will be looking to defend her sixth bantamweight title when she faces Julianna Pena in the co-main event. Nunes is the UFC’s top-earning female weightlifter, while Pena ranks 11th.
