Texas is back? No. of course.
The Longhorns dropped another game Saturday, losing to Big 12 rivals West Virginia 31-23. After the loss, Texas dropped to just 4-7 for the year with a 2-6 record against rivals at the conference.
Texas is a track record with the sixth most wins in FBS history and four national championships in the voting era, most recently winning the title in 2005. They competed. for a title as recent as 2009.

But this hasn’t been a big year for the show – at least, not in a positive way. And losing to West Virginia only made it worse. Here are some of the unfortunate milestones Longhorn achieved by losing to the climbing team.
Loser
This season would rank there among the worst seasons ever in the show’s history. The losing streak is definitely close to that point.
Texas has now lost six games in a row, marking its longest streak since 1956, when the Longhorns dropped to eighth in a row at the end of the season. That season, the record was started by West Virginia.
There isn’t much history of long losing streaks for Texas. In just the last three seasons, the Longhorns have lost five or more games in a row. The 1938 and 1956 teams each had the longest streak, with eight games. The Longhorns also lost five games in a row in 1936.

No longer qualified bowls
There used to be Texas always involved in bowl games. It qualified annually from 1998 to 2009; it only missed two bowl matches between 1969 and 1987.
But with this loss, the Longhorns have been unable to qualify well for 2021. That means next week’s game against Kansas State will be the final game of the 2021 season.
Texas has qualified four years in a row, and has certainly succeeded in those games, winning each of those games. Those results have helped Texas rank in the AP Top 25 for the past three seasons.
Texas will not be ranked at the end of this season.

Loss Conference
Texas hasn’t been a major powerhouse in recent years, but it’s rarely been the Big 12’s doormat. While Kansas will likely have that “honor” again in 2021, Texas will be very close. (especially when the Jayhawks beat the Longhorns in Austin).
With six losses already, it matches the most convention losses Texas has ever had in a single season. That mark ties with the record shared by the teams in 1956, 1997, 2010 and 2016. If Texas loses to Kansas State next week, it will fall 2-7 in the conference game, marking a bad record. its best ever.
Even the overall record is close to hitting the show’s low, though it certainly won’t sink all the way down to 1956 at 1-9.
But if Kansas State beats Texas in the final week of the season, the Longhorns will have a 4-8 record. That would be the show’s biggest loss since that infamous 1956 season. It would also force the 1938 team to lose the second most in a season (eight). Four wins would be the fewest since 1997.
