Tyson Fury, Oleksandr Usyk agree to meet, temporarily not fighting

Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk are said to be intent on fighting each other next.

Bob Arum, co-founder of Fury, says Sports sky that the heavyweight title holders have agreed to meet to win the undisputed championship in the first third of next year, as no date has been chosen.

And Arum insisted that they would not fight temporarily.

The parties have also yet to agree a location, although Arum said he has received offers from the Middle East. And Wembley Stadium in London is clearly a viable option.

“The two fighters have agreed to fight each other next,” Arum told Sky Sports. “With Fury and Usyk, we’re dealing with two adults, not many [garbage] back and forth.

“Usyk is a good friend of mine, he is very smart. And Tyson is Superman, both an athlete and an intellectual. So they want to fight. Both want to fight and so there will be few, if any, [messing] around.

“So we will be able to make that happen. I am very, very confident. Like I said, the fighters have all agreed to fight each other next without any temporary war.”

Arum has made it clear that the site is still up and running. At the same time, he clearly likes the idea of hosting it at a crowded Wembley.

“Now the question is what is the date and what is the website,” Arum said. “But that war is bound to happen and it will happen in the first four months of next year.

“We are balancing a number of key offers from the Middle East and also potentially making the UK game at Wembley with 95,000 spectators in attendance.

“Warriors have a relatively short lifespan and money is important. So if the amount that has been proposed to us is real, then that has to be looked at.”

“… [But] go back to Wembley and fight in front of 95,000 people because I really boil my blood. It would be crazy. It will be wonderful.”

When can an agreement be made?

“We’ll work it out,” Arum said. “I hope to be able by the end of the year.”

Fury (33-0-1, 24 KOs) is the WBC belt holder. “The Gypsy King” coming out in 2022 dominates, stopping both Dillian Whyte and Derek Chisora.

Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) holds three other major titles (IBF, WBA and WBO). The Ukrainian has only fought once this year, beating Anthony Joshua in their rematch.
