Two terrified dogs rescued from a 12-meter-deep mine

Two lost baby mice find themselves in a desperate situation when they fall into a 12-meter-long mine shaft. This couple is sure to face death if they don’t get help quickly, so the rescue team in Coober Pedy immediately got into action!

A resident of Coober Pedy noticed a strange sound coming from his opal mine upon arrival at work. After sitting next to the mine shaft and listening closely, he realized it was the sound of two dogs stuck at the bottom of the pit.

This resident knew they weren’t there the day before, so they must have hit the mine shaft at some point in the night. The two puppies were extremely scared and desperate to be saved, so the worker immediately contacted the local fire and rescue team.

It wasn’t long before the state’s fire department and emergency services arrived on the scene. They don’t know how the dogs will react to their help, so they must be careful as they proceed with their rescue plan. Armed with two life jackets and a dog-safe tranquilizer to use if needed, the first rescuer made it down the mine shaft.

As the rescuer made his way to the frightened dogs, he was amazed at how calm they were in his presence. As if they knew he was there to help them. He didn’t need to use any sedation when he tied the first dog to the seat belt. Once the first puppy was safe, it carefully inched up to the beak shaft with the rescued dog following.

When the first dog came out of the mines and into the light of day, its tail began to wag, and its eyes immediately lit up. He was so happy to be back in his familiar land and in the presence of rescuers, and he was ready for his furry friend to be with him.

The second rescue was just as easy as the first, and in a matter of moments, the two baby mice were reunited outside the mine shaft. The dogs then dived into a bowl of cool water that one of the rescuers offered, showing how thirsty they were after their terrifying ordeal. Once they were sufficiently hydrated and stable from the event, rescuers examined their bodies for any obvious injuries.

The pups came out of the beak with mild dehydration and some swelling and bruising. The State Emergency Services page says the two dogs were reunited with their grateful parents shortly after being rescued.

These two puppies are lucky to be in the hands of such an impressive rescue team. We hope they are recovering well at home!
