In a touching story, Twitter users banded together to help a Zomato delivery partner buy a new bike. This again highlights how people can come together to elevate the less privileged. The whole thing started when Twitter user Aditya Sharma posted on the microblogging site Durga Meena, a delivery partner of Zomato who lost her job as a teacher due to the Covid-19 pandemic, on Sunday. Sharma notices him delivering food on a bicycle while the mercury rises to 42 degrees Celsius. Noticing Meena’s plight, he decides to find a way to help.
He posted a series of tweets. The first sentence begins with, “Today my order was delivered to me on time and to my surprise, this time the delivery boy was riding his bike. Today my city temperature is around 42°C in this scorching heat of Rajasthan, he delivered me on time”. When asking Zomato’s delivery partner for his details, Sharma discovered that Meena, 31, had been a teacher for the past 12 years. However, when the Covid-19 pandemic hit, he lost his job and had to take on a job delivering food to feed himself and his family.

Sharma further tweeted, “he graduated BCOM BA and wanted to pursue MCOM but due to his financial condition he started working with zomato. He knows everything about the internet. Durga told me he wanted a laptop of his own with good wifi so he could teach students online as everything is moving online. He has borrowed and completed loans from various banks. and try to save money to buy a bicycle”. The Twitter thread also reveals that he earns around Rs. 10,000 a month after delivery of the order.
After Sharma expressed a desire to help him, Zomato’s delivery partner asked him to finance a bicycle prepayment. Meena says not only will he pay in installments himself, but also pay back the prepayment within 4 months with interest. Sharma decided to set up a fundraiser to raise money for Meena’s bike and posted the entire conversation on Twitter.
Within hours of posting on Twitter, the user starts depositing and his goal is to reach Rs. 75,000 were met immediately. Yesterday, Sharma helped Zomato’s delivery partner buy her new bike.
Posting a photo of Meena with her brand new bike, Sharma said: “It’s all thanks to you guys. Car delivery in less than 24 hours. Still have depositors asking them not to deposit. Fundraising has ended. He is very happy right now.” This incident once again shows that if people can come together, they can achieve great things.
