Miami Dolphins midfielder Tua Tagovailoa was taken off the field on a stretcher on Thursday against the Cincinnati Bengals, after suffering obvious head and neck injuries.
Tagovailoa is conscious, has movement in all limbs and has been taken to a local hospital for further evaluation, the team said in an update.
In the second half, Tagovailoa was sacked by Bengals defender Josh Tupou and lay motionless on the field for several minutes.
The entire Dolphins sideline entered the field as Tagovailoa was placed on the backboard and stretcher.
The Bengals fans present at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati showed their respect as Tagovailoa was taken off the pitch.
The injury comes days after the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) informed the National Football League (NFL) that it wanted to start looking into the treatment of Tagovailoa’s apparent head injury. in the team’s game on Sunday.
The Dolphins later said Tagovailoa suffered a back injury, not a head injury.
