Tszyu predicts ‘hell’ for Charlo if they fight
After seeing Jermell Charlo become the undisputed super heavyweight champion last month, Tim Tszyu believes he has a style that leaves him ‘terrified’.
Charlo beat Brian Castaño with an impressive tenth round knockout in their rematch.
The win earned Charlo the WBO title to put on his shoulders alongside three others he has held to crown him at an undisputed 154lbs.
“I think Charlo played it very cleverly,” said Tszyu podcast Premier Boxing Champions.
“I didn’t expect him to actually trade punches and stand his ground and stay there and trade. I just thought he was going to box, move. He usually doesn’t like too much pressure but, yes, he played smart. [He] used the game plan quite well. Once the pace really slows down from Castaño I think that’s when Charlo has control and he can make his shots more powerful but when Castaño speeds up the shots don’t come as crisp. . ”
The 27-year-old Australian was then asked if he had witnessed anything to exploit for a chance against Charlo.
“I have to come very smart in this fight. I see that Charlo has power. He has a punch that can change everything. You have to be smart but you have to give him a fight he never got into and give him hell. I think I’ve got that kind of style that might freak you out. “
Tszyu, undefeated in 21 starts, is a must-have for the current WBO and is expected to be the next undisputed champion. Although the sanctioning authority ordered the fight, a wrench was thrown into the work when Bakhram Murtazaliev’s representative revealed that an agreement has already been signed for the IBF mandatory challenger to get the first crack at Charlo.
“I really can’t control all the political activities involved,” said Tszyu.
“I am very interested and eager for the fight. I went to see Charlo-Castaño 2 live because I thought I was next in line. I’m excited for the fight. I knew it was going to be a good fight because there was a lot of interest around the world, especially in Australia. Fighting for the belt is always a dream but if you can do it for all the belts that’s even better.
“I think the fight makes sense; I am obligatory. Guys need to get it done and I’ll be ready to go in October/11.”
Tszyu told the PBC Podcast that he plans to base future training camps in the US after a successful launch in Stateside three months ago. beat Terrell Gausha in points.
