Triumph Chrome Collection for Modern Classics
The Triumph Motorcycle Chrome Collection is only available for 2023 for the Modern Classics line of retro motorcycles. Launched in a limited edition of just one year, the Triumph Chrome Collection was introduced as an option on the Bonneville and Rocket range.
Chrome-plated fuel tanks are available for the Bonneville T120, Scrambler 1200, Bobber, Speedmaster, Thruxton RS as well as the Rocket GT and Rocket R. With a mirror-like finish, each tank undergoes a three-hour polishing process performed in-house at Triumph’s workshop in Hinckley.
The chrome plating process is done manually one tank at a time, each taking one hour and 40 minutes to complete using a dedicated chrome plating production line. This involves ultrasonic cleaning and rinsing, the application of a durable nickel-plated base and the final application of decorative chrome.
The chrome fuel tank painting involves hand masking using hard plastic mask guides custom-made to the shape of the tank. The process is a highly skilled one at Triumph, taking seven times longer than the conventional gas tank painting process.
After applying a special primer, the tank is inspected before final painting, where the color is sprayed by hand. Then the final stage begins with masking off, another inspection, followed by another polishing stage, blending the finish between paint and chrome before the fuel tank is signed off at final inspection and shipped to the production line.
