Traffic slows in most major US cities by 2022
You will think with many employers provide work from home and flexible start times, traffic jam There will be less and farther, but data from mapping technology company Tom Tom shows that commuting is more frustrating than ever.
Tom Tom has been track traffic patterns globally for many years. It sets an interesting metric for its ranking: A car can move six miles in a city during rush hour. Researchers measured travel time in 389 cities globally, of which 80 are in our United States A., and they compare the 2022 figure with the 2021 travel time. They also calculate how much pollution is generated and the cost to the owner per kilometer or mile.
Washington DC and Indianapolis had worst slowdown; both cities added a minute and a half to their six minuteswalk a mile between 2021 and 2022. New York City, the slowest city in the United States, added one minute 10 seconds to an average six-mile drive time of 24 minutes 30 seconds. People who were too good to take the train to Manhattan now spend an astounding 236 hours in traffic each year.
Having a good news role, However! Seven major US metropolitan areas have reduced their average driving timesS, with Orlando cutting a whole 30 seconds of driving time! That’s even though sometimes crocodile on the road. Commute times in other cities, like Cincinnati, Ohio, and Grand Rapids, Michigan, are 10 or 20 seconds down from their average commute time. Eleven more people saw no change in traffic patterns. That leaves the 62 US cities where our trips are a little slower each day.
However, that is nothing compared to the slowest moving speed in the world. Londoners spent 325 hours in traffic last year, and a 6-mile car trip through London takes an average of 35 minutes and 5 seconds. That’s more than 13 days (or as our UK cousins would say, ov’ a twotnight) of time lost to traffic. London is also the second most expensive place to drive a car, with owners paying $3,063 per 10,000 miles. It is only beaten by Hong Kong at $3,395 per 10,000 miles.

Friend Maybe find research here, and it’is full of interesting stats if you are a huge nerd like me. I, For one, it wouldn’t be predictable that traffic in Winnipeg would be slower than the legendary traffic jam in Los Angeles.
