Toyota Raize/Daihatsu Rocky e-Smart hybrid R135 improperly performed side impact test, sales suspension
Following an earlier incident of an inappropriate R95 certification process for DNGA-based vehicles including the Vios, Axia and Yaris Cross, Daihatsu conducted an internal audit of its certification operations. Inspection revealed another nonconformity certification case was made, this time regarding Toyota Raize hybrid And Daihatsu Rocky hybrid.
It involves the UN R135 test, in which a pole-like pole or similar object is impacted against the wall of a vehicle. In this test, left and right tests must be performed and test data must be submitted. What happened was that the passenger side test was done properly, but for the driver side test, Daihatsu sent the passenger side test data instead of the drier side test data.
A total of 78440 vehicles are affected including 22,329 Rocky hybrids and 56,111 Raize hybrids. As you know, there is only lease Perodua Ativa hybrid in Malaysia is closer to Daihatsu which is fully imported from Japan than locally produced Ativa, but we are not sure if it will be affected as Perodua is not mentioned anywhere in the press release. Raize/Rocky/Ativa also has a Subaru badged brother called SubaruRex, but it is also not mentioned. But unlike the Rocky and Raize, the Rex is only equipped with a 1.2-liter normally aspirated engine – no e-Smart Hybrid for Subaru.
Sales of both Toyota and Daihatsu models have now been suspended. Daihatsu and Toyota are still in the process of confirming their next steps and will share more news as it becomes available.
