Toyota HiLux 2023 car price and specifications

The Toyota Hilux maybe lost sales crown let it Ford Ranger arch rival in 2023, but it will gain a new top spot in the second half of this year.

The GR Sport is powered by a more powerful and 10% more powerful 2.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, while also tweaking the suspension and transmission.

Pricing for this variant has yet to be announced and the recently updated Rogue remains the top HiLux to date.

The HiLux price increased by $1250 on many variants by the end of 2022, and further rallies have appeared since January 1 on a number of variants. A full price list can be found below.

There are no further specification changes this year.

A Toyota Australia spokesperson said: “The increase in the HiLux price is due to a combination of factors beyond our control.

“[These include] more expensive raw materials, labor, tools and packaging… resulting in higher production costs.

“Have [also] Sea freight costs increased significantly and economic conditions were generally more difficult with rising inflation, both at home and abroad.

“To address these challenges, Toyota remains committed to keeping price increases to a minimum while maintaining customer expectations for the quality and reliability of our vehicles.”

The updated Rogue, completed in Australia, introduced last October, has increased front and rear wheel lengths by around 140mm, as well as increased tank height by around 20mm. Both are claimed to support both on-road and off-road performance.

To accommodate the increased track in the HiLux Rogue, Toyota engineers overhauled the existing suspension by lengthening the front suspension swingarm and front stabilizer bar length. They also adjusted the damping angle to improve its efficiency.

At the rear, the axle length has been lengthened and the dampers have been moved further towards the wheels.

Toyota claims they’ve increased the Rogue’s roll stiffness by 20%, while a new rear stabilizer bar is said to enhance cornering stability and ride comfort.

New ventilated rear disc brakes replace existing drum brakes for better braking performance, while front disc brakes have been upgraded to 17-inch diameter ones – an inch up from before.

Wrapping up the top-of-the-line HiLux Rogue-specific upgrades are wider wheel arches and mudguards to accommodate that larger track width.

The Rogue isn’t the only HiLux variant to receive the update for 2023.

Announced last year, the SR extra-cab and dual-cab models will receive new 17-inch black alloy wheels, instead of the current 17-inch steel wheels and body-colored door handles.

The dual-cabin SR5 pickup has important active safety equipment such as blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. These safety features are also standard on the upgraded Rogue.

Other new features that the dual-cabin SR5 pickup is getting as part of this update will include a surround-view camera as well as puddle lights. The heated rearview mirror has been removed.

On SR5 models with automatic transmission and above, the steering column lock has been replaced with an ID Box anti-theft immobilizer, which is said to increase security for owners starting the car with a smart key.

powertrain

The most powerful engine in the Toyota Hilux 2023 product line is the engine 2.8 liter four-cylinder diesel engine, including 150kW power (at 3400 rpm) and 500Nm torque (at 1600-2800rpm) when equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission. Developed craft model 420Nm (at 1400-3400rpm).

Warranty and Service

The Toyota HiLux is covered by Toyota’s 5-year, unlimited-kilometer warranty, which includes any Toyota-manufactured parts, panels, and accessories.

The engine and transmission warranty can be extended for a further two years provided the vehicle is serviced as scheduled and the vehicle is supported for seven years of emergency assistance.

Service rates are capped between $245 and $290 per visit for the first six visits, covering three years or 60,000 kilometers.
