Original Toyota C-HR not exactly a car we mourn when we heard it was cancelled. It’s not all bad, but it’s definitely slow, and a lot those who bought one end up regretting it. Not a lot of people bought one. Both the Honda HR-V and the Hyundai Kona are significantly more popular with buyers of small crossovers. But the Toyota C-HR 2024 looks like a much more desirable car. Unfortunately for us, Toyota said they won’t come to the US

Looking at the photos, it’s clear that the design of the new C-HR is heavily influenced by the recently redesigned Prius. Maybe just think of it as a Prius crossover that we’re forbidden to drive. It’s not quite as pretty as the Prius and a two-tone paint job is certainly an option, but based on the photos alone, the new C-HR looks like a much more desirable car than the one it claims to be. replace. It’s also more adventurous than the Corolla Cross we got.

Inside, Toyota’s interior is quite simple with a 12.3-inch driver screen and an 8.0-inch or 12.3-inch horizontal infotainment screen. It also supports wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, and the latest version of Toyota’s suite of driver-assistance and safety tech features comes standard. There is also a wide range of ambient light colors to choose from. Normally, that’s not necessarily a useful feature, but the C-HR will flash a red light to warn you if you’re about to open the door to hit a passing car or cyclist.

Under the hood, the C-HR uses only a hybrid engine, reinforcing the comparisons with the Prius. The base powertrain is a 1.8-liter hybrid, although there’s a 2.0-liter hybrid that can be combined with an optional all-wheel drive system. The 2.0-liter plug-in hybrid sits at the top of the range. The press release does not include information about the power, but Motor1 reports base powertrain makes 140 hp, the 2.0-liter makes 198 hp and the plug-in makes 223 hp. The PHEV is also said to have a 41-mile range. If it were to go on sale here, the EPA would probably rate it as close to 35 miles, but that doesn’t really matter because as we mentioned before, Toyota won’t give the US a chance to buy a new C-HR. .

Is it really the end of the world that we don’t have another small crossover? Not really. If we have the ability to bring back some forbidden fruit, we will definitely choose something more interesting such as travel BMW M3. But compared to corolla cross, the new C-HR looks a lot more interesting. So we’re not going to pretend we’re not in the least bit disappointed that Toyota doesn’t care to let us drive it.
