Touhou Danmaku Kagura dead, long live Touhou Danmaku Kagura. Popular based mobile rhythm game Project Touhou The franchise is officially closed as promised. However, developer UnknownX has announced that they plan to recall as much of the now dead game as possible to reincarnate it into a new title. Its name will be Touhou Danmaku Kagura: Phantasia Lostand is targeted for release on Steam in 2023. It will be available worldwide. [Thanks, Dengeki!]
Key to the move was a crowdfunding campaign held on the Japanese crowdfunding website Camp-fire. The campaign will start on November 4, 2022, and has a goal of 15 million yen (about $102k USD). Watch the opening trailer for the campaign below:
UnknownX states that while it is “lucky to have the opportunity” to redevelop the game in this way, the company and its sponsoring partners alone cannot shoulder the entire development process, which is why Why should it use crowdfunding? The game will be a standalone title and can work offline, with a redesigned interface and rhythm mechanics for controller-based operation. It will feature a new story mode, set on the premise of resurrecting Gensokyo after a disaster left it in ruins. The Mitama Cards and their artwork will be included in the story mode as a way to unlock Gensokyo’s memories. There will also be a free-to-play mode allowing players to enjoy the rhythm game “to their heart’s content”. Additional content such as Mitama Cards and songs will be added through updates and eventually paid DLC packs. The game will support Japanese, Chinese and English language options.
Touhou Danmaku Kagura: Phantasia Lost is in the process of development. Its crowdfunding campaign will begin on November 4, 2022.
