Touch ‘n Go says compatibility with systems in countries outside Malaysia is enabled by integration with QR payments across national borders and partnership with Alipay+. One example is the adoption of Touch ‘n Go eWallet on the QRIS network in Indonesia, allowing transactions to be made at more than 25 million merchant touchpoints, according to the company.
With this cross-border capability, users will be able to conduct transactions in their respective country’s local currency at the real-time exchange rate displayed in the user’s E-Wallet before payment is made. presently. Touch ‘n Go indicates the total amount of payments that will be deducted from their eWallet or Go+ balance, just like for payments made in Malaysia.
There are two methods for making payments – the first method is for the merchant to scan the user’s e-wallet using the Payment function, where the user selects the Payment icon and taps ‘swipe up to pay overseas’ out by Alipay+’. The user will then select the country for the transaction and view the current exchange rate, then show their QR code to the merchant, who scans the code and completes the payment.
The alternative is to use the ‘Scan’ function, which is for E-Wallet users to scan the merchant’s QR code, enter the amount to be transacted and confirm the payment, then complete the process. The process is essentially the same as making E-Wallet payments locally in Malaysia, with an element of foreign exchange added where applicable.
Touch ‘n Go eWallet has been integrated with Alipay+ since 2022, allowing Touch ‘n Go eWallet users to make cross-border payments on the Alipay+ merchant network in Mainland China, Japan, Korea and Singapore , and most recently expanded to include Thailand. Touch ‘n Go says future additions will include the Philippines, Australia, etc.
