Top Florida Sire Khozan Leads Journeyman 2022 Roster


Main Florida sire Khozan  , who topped the state’s general sire list in 2020 and is poised to repeat the feat this year, will stand for $8,500 for the 2022 breeding season, according to Journeyman Stud, which released the fees for its full roster Nov. 9.

The 9-year-old son of Distorted Humor   and third-crop stallion has sired 21 black-type stakes horses, which include nine stakes winners through Nov. 8. Among his top performers are grade 3 winner Background , who won the Longacres Mile Handicap (G3), and multiple stakes winners Princess Secret , Liam’s Lucky Charm , and Poppy’s Pride 

“Khozan has been very successful to date with comparably small crops of foals,” said Brent Fernung, the owner of Journeyman Stud.”Having bred almost 300 mares over the past two years, his future is very bright.”

St Patrick’s Day  , full brother to 2015 Triple Crown winner American Pharoah  , will stand next year for $5,000. The 6-year-old stallion’s first crop are weanlings of 2021. St Patrick’s Day broke his maiden at Del Mar in his second begin at 2, defeating graded stake winner Instilled Regard  .

Mr. Money  , a 5-year-old son of Goldencents  , goes into his second year at stud next year for $4,000. As a racehorse, Mr. Money is a graded 1-placed, grade 3 winner of $1,380,000. He won four consecutive graded stakes at 3 in 2019 that included the Pat Day Mile Stakes Presented by LG and E and KU (G3), Matt Winn Stakes (G3), Indiana Derby (G3), and West Virginia Derby (G3). Mr. Money also was runner-up in the Pennsylvania Derby (G1), in which he finished in front of Preakness Stakes (G1) winner War of Will   and multiple grade 1 winner Improbable  .

Chance It  , a 4-year-old son of Currency Swap , is new to the Journeyman roster for 2022. He won two stakes at 2 including the FTBOA Florida Sire In Reality Stakes and the FTBOA Florida Sire Dr. Fager Stakes. He returned at 3 to win the Mucho Macho Man Stakes in his first start at 3 before injury forced him to the sideline for the remainder of the year. At 4, Chance It finished second in the Smile Sprint Invitational Stakes (G3) and third in the Forego Stakes (G1). He was pulled up with a soft tissue injury in the Sept. 25 Kelso Handicap (G2) at Belmont Park and was retired with a 4-4-1 record from 11 starts with earnings of $583,330. He will stand for $2,000.
