Some California drivers were taken by surprise as they commuted to work Monday morning after a truck crashed into the median divider on Interstate 80 between San Francisco and Sacramento, California, damaging several lane with quickly crushed tomatoes.
Sacramento’s KTVU television reported that the crash happened around 5 a.m. local time near Vacaville, caused heavy traffic but no one was injured. It took state Department of Transportation workers several hours to clear and reopen all lanes on the highway, the California Highway Patrol said.
The clutter sparks some culinary humour, at least for those who aren’t stuck in tomato traffic. “Get the chip, oh wait there you go,” one Internet commenter wrote, referring to the CHP officers’ nicknames.
