Tips for a better photo session
Here are four great tips to give you an edge when it comes to photography, whether for work or as a hobby.
Talk to Models
Many photographers can waste a lot of time warming up a model. You can increase your success rate just by spending 10 minutes talking to an engaged audience. That would be the model sitting in glamor. I run a photography studio and only the best of the best do this. They only talk about life, mundane things while talent is in the glitz. This allows the photographer to relax the model and figure out which angle is best. When I did this, I noticed that I took better pictures sooner.
DIY model
Sometimes you have to put the camera down and model the pose. It really is an icebreaker and allows you to put yourself in their shoes. Maybe you are very good at describing what you want, or maybe displaying them creates successful images faster.
Know when to stop
I’ll find myself pushing something when it’s not working. It could be bad lighting, not the right model, or maybe I’m the one having an inactive day. If something doesn’t work, confidently say “let’s move on to the next look” instead of trying to prove something. Only you know when the time is right, but when you’re there, don’t drag it out.
Get multiple expressions
On the other hand, if something is working fine, keep capturing but add some other expressions. Why do this? Because you’ll be thanking yourself in post-production instead of saying “I love this pose but I wish we had a smile.” Slow down and require a variety of expressions. Do you have that gorgeous smile and think that’s it? Take another 90 seconds and ask for the same pose but with a half smile, then a friendly look, then a little more serious, etc. Sometimes it’s a numbers game and you’ll want to. increase your odds.
