The Masquerade
Bloodhunt takes place in the Vampire: The Masquerade universe, where vampires exist among the living but swear not to reveal their true nature. Any superhuman or monster-like behavior would attract the attention of mortals. This means you have to be careful, as drinking blood in front of a mortal witness will trigger the Blood Hunt.
Generally, Bloodhunt is started when a vampire breaks the rules of the Carnival. That is, if they reveal their true nature to one or more mortals. This could include a mortal witnessing feeding or the use of supernatural powers. In Prague, this Bloodhunt is only temporary. Survive, and Bloodhunt will be stopped.
Killing civilians is also forbidden and will trigger a Bloodhunt. However, feel free to kill and dry out as many Entity minions as you can.
The senses increase height
Vampires have enhanced senses that allow them to be more aware of their surroundings.
Looking for a human with a specific type of Blood Resonance, or if there are any weapons nearby? No problem! You can activate your Growing Sense at any time to scan your surroundings and find the resources you need to survive the night.
It’s also useful for identifying vampires, in case they’re trying to pose as mortals.
Drink blood and resonate blood
Drinking blood is paramount to a vampire’s survival, but all mortal blood is not the same. Depending on a person’s mood, their blood gives vampires unique powers. This is called Blood Resonance. In Bloodhunt, there are four types of Blood Resonance:
- Genuine luxury – This Health Resonance has a pink aura and increases your healing speed.
- Choleric – This increases your melee damage so make sure to stock up on this if you want to get up close and personal. You will recognize it by the orange aura.
- Apathetic – This resonance has a blue aura and reduces the cooldown of your Prototype Strength.
- Melancholy – You will identify this Blood Resonance through its purple aura. Drinking this health reduces the cooldown of your Clan Power.
Not all mortals have resonance blood. If a mortal doesn’t have a colored aura, they can still restore your health, but you won’t get any special boosts.
Also, when playing Bloodhunt Mode, you may encounter certain people who grant you extra Life. You can only pick up this Life and you’ve already lost a life. By default, you can only have one more Life at any given time.
Diablerie
As you prepare to destroy the opposing vampire, you can choose to commit to it. This not only gives them ultimate death, but it also means you consume their souls by drinking their Blood.
Since this move requires you to get up close and takes some time, it can be a risky move. However, the XP gain and the addition of the Health Resonance slot make this brutal finishing blow worth it.
Melee weapons with special abilities
Some weapons in Bloodhunt have special abilities for you to learn and use. For example, Katana can deflect projectiles and Scourge Blades allow the user to perform a special attack. Learn how to use these weapons to your advantage to surprise your enemies.
Entity and search for the best weapon
Bloodhunt has a wide variety of weapons, but not all of them are of equal quality. The best ones are purple and gold weapons, but unfortunately, they are often found in areas that are heavily Protected by Entities.
Familiarize yourself with the Camarilla caches and Entity Hardbox that spawn these weapons, and fight or sneak through the Entities to get to them. They are well worth the effort and can mean the difference between survival and eventual death in combat.
Either way, it’s always a good idea to kill as many monsters as you can…
And with that said, we think you’re ready to rule the dark. Until next time, see you at dawn!
