Tim Tszyu aims to take over the welterweight division

With his US debut fast approaching, Tim Tszyu said he plans to take over the entire super heavyweight division.

The Australian is heading to Stateside this week to complete preparations for his March 26 battle with Terrell Gausha on Showtime. The main event at The Armory in Minneapolis will give Tszyu the opportunity to show American boxing fans his talent that many believe he will become a world
champion.

“I came to America with the grand vision of taking over the entire superweight division and becoming the world’s next great 154-pound champion,” WBO number one contender said in a press release.

His father Kostya made his US debut on January 30, 1993, stopping Steve Larrimore in two innings. He then went on to become one of the all-time greats in the 140lbs division with a string of major USA fights.

“To be a legend, you have to come to America at some point in your career and leave your mark on the sport,” Tim said.

“I want to continue my family’s legacy in boxing, as well as forge my own journey. March 26 is the beginning of my era”.

Gausha has two career losses to Erislandy Lara and Erickson Lubin. Tszyu, unbeaten in 20 matches, fully respects his opponent.

“He has a world-class amateur pedigree, and has fought at championship level,” said Tszyu.

“I feel that facing someone like Gausha, who is winning big, would make a great fight. This will be my Showtime debut, and I not only want to be the best, but also the face of the network. I want to follow in my father’s footsteps and one day be inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. “
