Thorpedo Anna’s Aggression Overcome in Thrilling Travers


In a race that was as expected, Aggression 2023 2-year-old champion, defeated the excellent 3-year-old mare Anna Thorpedo to win the $1.25 million Travers Stakes (G1) on August 24 at Saratoga Race Track.

Tracking the outside pace under John Velazquez, Fierceness charged in to take control into turn two from the leader Close tightly and classic winner chasing speed Dornoch . On entering the race, Fierceness had to push back Grade 1 mare Thorpedo Anna, who had found room to run and chase the Eclipse Award winner. She kept up the chase but eventually ran off the track, finishing a head clear.

Popular Sierra Leone appeared and Dornoch ran fourth.

A 3 year old son of City of Light out of the mare Stay Thirsty Mrs. Bella Owned and bred by Mike Repole’s Repole Stable, Fierceness ran 1 1/4 miles on a fast track in 2:01.79. He was paid $9.80 to win.
