This space robot was created to help astronauts on the moon and Mars
Building bases on the moon and Mars may be possible sooner than we expect, but for now, allowing humans to roam the vast expanses of these interstellar surfaces is expensive and difficult. Usually, a utility robot are preferred. One of the more interesting space bots we’ve seen is the R1 moon robot made by GITAI. It’s a remote-controlled humanoid robot on four wheels, designed to help astronauts. R1 is designed to perform tasks like discovery, construction, repair, research, and more. GITAI hopes that their robot will help reduce the cost of traditional human space travel by sending these bots to the surface of the moon and Mars to complete missions. The R1 bot can move on rocks and is equipped with a “multi-directional steering” feature that allows it to change direction easily. During its tests on the Dummy Lunar Surface Environment at JAXA, R1 successfully assembled solar panels, communication antennas, sample collection and more. GITAI hopes its R1 bot will travel into space by 2040. Learn more at gitai.tech
