This is what the MotoGP 2023 rider lineup looks like
The recent flurry of official rider announcements means that the MotoGP team for 2023 is nearing completion.
Aprilia’s official confirmation that Miguel Oliveira and Raul Fernandez will be racing in the RNF Aprilia team brings the total number of confirmed drivers contracted to 18. All factory seats are now occupied and only available. there are 4 satellite seats still open.
However, “Open” is probably not the correct description here. We are almost certain who will occupy those seats in 2023, the only question is when they will be announced.
The seats likely to be announced first are the VR46 Mooney Ducati team. That lineup will remain unchanged, with Luca Marini and Marco Bezzecchi continuing in the lineup.
The only question is whether both riders will have a Desmosedici GP23 at their disposal, or just Marini.
At LCR Honda Idemitsu, Takaaki Nakagami will almost certainly stay. Ai Ogura of the Honda Asia team had many supporters to claim the seat, but the Japanese rider decided to stay at Moto2 for one more season, to try to claim the Moto2 crown.
On the Tech3 GasGas team, Augusto Fernandez will almost certainly join Pol Espargaro. Moto2 2021 champion Remy Gardner has been told there is no place for him in MotoGP next year and he is looking outside the Grand Prix circuit for his future.
KTM’s rookie dumping policy quickly continued to confuse viewers, as both Raul Fernandez and Remy Gardner were ousted after their rookie season, while Iker Lecuona had two years at Tech3 before forced to leave.
Of the factory’s ten seats, only one will be vacant by the end of 2023. Franco Morbidelli has next season to secure an extension at the Monster Energy Yamaha team, although he will need some help from the car bike MotoGP 2023.
Among the satellite drivers, both RNF’s Aprilia and LCR Honda’s Alex Rins have two-year contracts, with the remaining seats set to open at the end of 2023.
