It’s Friday, which means movie night will probably take place this weekend. So should you settle for an automotive classic, like “Mad Max,” or go out and confuse yourself foolishly with screening of “Megalopolis?” I personally wouldn’t recommend watching this weekend, instead I think you should watch this short epic. Filmed entirely by remote control car and iPhones.
The movie in question fit my timeline of watching the apocalypse today, and it reinvigorated my faith in social media. Created by visual artist David Mait was called “Vroom” and followed a plucky young Chevrolet Chevelle SS about its adventures. However, instead of being a big-budget masterpiece that destroys hundreds of thousands of American muscle, the film puts RC cars in the spotlight.
That’s right, every car you see in the short film is scaled down, The RC model finally has its time to shine. And it’s wonderful. It may only be a minute long and lack almost anything plot-related, but “Vroom” is a great little watch if you’re having a lazy Friday afternoon.
Start with one Chevelle flees through the desertOur main character is a mysterious driver dressed in black who is being shot at, dodging explosions, and trying to escape a giant pickup truck that is chasing them through the mud.
Almost as soon as you come to terms with what’s happening, everything changes and suddenly a sleek black muscle car is passing through the empty streets of a mysterious city. It all looks very interesting and has some neat tricks, nice photos and a some movie references Throw in for good measure.
The action then shifts again as we enter the third act of the short, revealing the limitations of the dream world this film imposes.
