Retractable pole EV chargers don’t exist where I live. I really didn’t know they were real until Mark Zuckerberg’s thread sent me this post from user @mkarilian. A little digging showed me that these retractable chargers have been around for a few years now. So why aren’t they more popular? By making the cord retractable, this overcomes a lot of problems; sidewalk real estate, wires left on the ground, vandalism, etc. And because the wires are so long, they can be extended to plug in on either side of the car, front or rear. They are geniuses!
Practically all the parking in my neighborhood is on the street. It stands to reason that there are people living here who can’t choose to drive electric vehicles because they don’t have anywhere they can plug in overnight for energy. It would be great if I could park my electric scooter on the street and plug it in. Maybe I will use it more often.
If you ask me, this type of charger is much more important than DC Fast chargers along interstate highways. Most driving is done within 30 miles of your home, so isn’t that where the majority of chargers are located?
