Zombies — you can’t get rid of them!
On Monday, March 7, AMC announced plans for a Walking corpses spin-off series called Isle of the Dead. The program will have Walking corpses veteran Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan reprise the roles of Maggie and Negan respectively. The two will “travel into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan long away from the mainland.”
According to the network, Maggie and Negan will be forced to live in a version of the city “full of corpses and residents who have made New York City their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty and aghast.”
It sounds right.
Veteran Walking corpses writer and co-executive producer Eli Jorné will serve as showrunner and executive producer of the series, which will have a six-episode first season on AMC and AMC+ in 2023.
The series will give viewers a chance to dig deeper into the lives of both Maggie and Negan. Cohan joined the show in season two. She left in 2019 to briefly star on ABC’s Whiskey Cavalierbefore returning in season nine.
In a statement, she said, “Maggie is so close to my heart and I’m excited to continue her journey in the iconic New York City scene, alongside her friend and collaborator. my staff, Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Eli Jorné has created something very special and I can’t wait for fans to see what we have in store for Maggie and Negan.”
Morgan joined the show on its fifth season and has been an integral part of the universe ever since. “I’m glad that Negan and Maggie’s journey continues,” he said. “What a walk in Negan’s shoes, I’m super excited to continue his journey in New York City with Lauren. Walking in the urban landscape is always a great sight, but but 5th Avenue, Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty? Greatest city in the world?? The setting is amazing, but it’s the story that Eli Jorné cooked that makes it even better.”
