The voice actor of Tem Ray and Valkenhayn Motomu Kiyokawa has passed away
Japanese voice actor Motomu Kiyokawa died at the age of 87 on August 17, 2022, at 11:10 AM JST due to pneumonia. His agency Haikyo reported on August 22, 2022. The company’s chairman of the board Kouji Asada added that his funeral was conducted only with close people to respect a request from the surviving family.
Motomu Kiyokawa began his voice acting career in the 1964 anime adaptation of Osamu Tezuka Big X. Since then, he has mostly voiced elderly men in many movie titles.
Some of Kiyokawa’s most famous roles include Amuro’s father, Tem Ray in Mobile Suit GundamNERV’s deputy commander, Kozo Fuyutsuki in Neon Genesis Evangelionand Rachel Alucard’s butler, Valkenhayn R. Hellsing in BlazBlue fighting game series. In addition, he voices Rain Mikamura’s father in Mobile Fighter G Gundam. Kiyokawa’s voice also appears in the Japanese dub for several Square Enix games, such as Louisoix Leveilleur in Final Fantasy XIV and Domino, mayor of Midgar, in Final Fantasy VII Remake.
Motomu Kiyokawa also plays an important role in some of the anime titles included in Super Robot War game series. He is Jose, one of the pilots of Eldora Soul from Gun X Sword there is a voice appearing in Super Robot Wars BILLION and Super robot war 30. He also voices Gargoyle, the villain of Nadia: The secret of blue water appeared in Super Robot Wars. Although not voiced in the games, Kiyokawa has also voiced base commander Izu Laker Randolph in the anime adaptations of the series. Super Robot Wars: Original Generations.
