OceanGate charged $250,000 for an eight-day trip to the wreck, and news outlets reported the names of wealthy passengers believed to be on board the sub: Stockton Rush, OceanGate’s chief executive, who perhaps the pilot; Hamish Harding, a 58-year-old British billionaire businessman and adventurer; Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman, are British citizens; and French explorer Paul-Henry Nargeolet.
CBS reporter David Pogue, who has traveled in giant sunk last year, told the BBC that the passengers had been sealed inside the ship with bolts applied from the outside. “There is no way to escape, even if you come to the surface by yourself. You can’t get out of the submarine without the crew outside letting you out.”
