The rescue dog returned 4 times to get into the yard he always wanted
Bentley the Bloodhound had a rough start to his life. As a result, he developed trust issues and aggression, so he was labeled a “problem dog”. Bloodhounds are also large dogs, so adopting a puppy like this is a challenge. The poor thing has returned to the shelter many times.
Luckily, someone considered Bentley a product of the environment rather than a bad dog. KaTarra Taylor, who ultimately saved him, shares Bentley’s adoption story in a post in the Dogspotting Society Facebook group.
“I adopted him at the age of four. I am his 5th home and everyone has abandoned him. He is destructive, aggressive, and distrustful. I’m in a 1 bedroom apartment but I can’t let him come back to save me again after a bad job at my parents’ house. I worked tirelessly to train him, treat his anxiety, diagnose and treat his severe allergies, and break his aggression. “
Through it all, Taylor has been patient with Bentley. So does her boyfriend Nick Evenson, although he claims to not like Bentley. (Isn’t that what they said at first?)
Courtyard of dreams
“I ended up buying a townhouse so we could live together. It has a patio that I know he will love. I can’t afford a house with a yard, but I think I can turn a patio into a small yard with the right help.”
Taylor knows how much Bentley, a permanent shelter dog, means to Bentley, finally having grass to nap. According to Taylor, his experience with the pitch is limited.
“In all the time he was with me, he never had his own yard… only the park and the lawn on our walk…”
Evenson helped make their dreams come true. He embarked on a weekend-long construction project to turn concrete green. (Looks like he already likes the puppy, doesn’t he?)
“I finally decided it was time to get this done last week. Nick, my boyfriend, can get it all done in one day for under $400.”
After Evenson completed the construction project, the yard is now covered with grass. A dream come true for Bentley!
“Bentley immediately lay down and was only there for a few hours. He seems very happy with it.”
After a life in a crib, sweet Bentley loves the feel of the grass beneath him! He also doesn’t mind the snow too much.
Thanks to this couple’s care, a dog with trust issues has learned to love. Bentley is living the life he always deserved but never got the chance to! And it includes a lot of green grass.
