The Polestar Precept concept will transform into a new flagship called the Polestar 5, scheduled to launch in 2024, Polestar announced Tuesday.
Confirmation comes with the release of the third installment of the Precept concept’s design video series. This video focuses on the exterior design of the concept, which Polestar claims will be quite close to the production version. A teaser image of the Polestar 5 shows the same overall shape, but with many detailed changes, including the regular doors in place of the Precept’s suicide doors.
Launching in 2020, Commandment is a flagship four-store fastback — a bit like the Tesla Model S. The concept will make its North American market debut in early December at an investor and analyst event in New York City. Polestar will then send it on a tour of Polestar Space’s showrooms in the United States and Canada.
The production version of the Polestar 5 will take the top spot in the brand’s lineup following the departure of Polestar 1 plug-in hybrid coupe. The Polestar 1 has always been intended as a limited run product, as the brand’s main focus is said to be all-electric vehicles.
In addition to the design, Polestar teased a futuristic interface for Precept beyond what is currently offered in the Polestar 2 EV. In keeping with Polestar’s carbon footprint goals, the manufactured Polestar 5 is also likely to be a showcase natural and sustainable materials.
Before Polestar 5 comes out, we’ll get a Polestar 3 Electric SUV. Scheduled to launch in 2022, it is set to challenge the likes of the Tesla Model Y and Ford Mustang Mach-E. And it will be made in the United States. The Polestar nomenclature also makes room for the Polestar 4 model to be introduced at some point.
