The Mazda SUV suddenly braked suddenly in the emergency lane on the PLUS highway, causing an accident with a motorcyclist

Another day, another incident involving the use of emergency lanes in Malaysia. A video of a group of motorcyclists cursing at the driver of a Mazda SUV parked in an emergency lane on the PLUS highway went viral on social media over the weekend.

It was report that the driver had stopped in the emergency lane north of the PLUS highway because his pregnant wife was nauseous and wanted to vomit. After stopping, he wanted to continue moving but had to brake hard because a Toyota Alphard entered the emergency lane.

At that time, the two motorcycles could not dodge and collided with the Mazda car. As a result, three motorcyclists suffered minor injuries. This is where the movie in the video below begins.

When it comes to rule books, everyone in this incident is wrong. Under Rule 53(1) of the Road Traffic Rules 1959, you are not allowed to:

  • Memandu kenderaan di lorong kecemasan
  • Menunda kenderaan di lorong kecemasan
  • Menolak kenderaan di lorong kecemasan
  • Meletak kenderaan di lorong kecemasan
  • Meninggalkan kenderaan tanpa jagaan di lorong kecemasan

Violators can be fined up to RM2,000 or imprisoned for up to six months, or both.

The law clearly states that no vehicle is allowed to use the emergency lane unless allowed. However, with traffic conditions like those on Malaysian highways, in general, the police and JPJ do not enforce this law against motorcyclists in the interest of keeping traffic flowing and the safety of all. all road users.

However, motorcyclists should still travel at a reasonable speed in the emergency lane so that an accident can be avoided if necessary. I mean, if you want to use the emergency lane as a lane, the two-second rule logically applies to all lanes.

We don’t have any details on what the Toyota Alphard did to cause the Mazda SUV to suddenly brake. But it wasn’t seen in the viral video so we assumed it was able to drive normally, so why did it enter the emergency lane in the first place to cause an emergency braking situation?

And finally, Mazda. As humans, we have empathy so it feels bad to say the SUV was wrong to stop for our wife. But the reality is, it’s not really a good enough reason to stop in the emergency lane because the car is already mechanically well-handled, so it’s against the law.

For situations like these, you should stock up on some 700cc collapsible emergency bag in the car can be used for emergencies like vomiting or urinating, especially if you have children.
