Baykar Defense, a company known globally for Bayraktar is very successful unmanned aerial vehicle, has completed the development and assembly of the second prototype of the mysterious MIUS jet-controlled drone, also known as Kızılelma. It is highly likely that this type of drone could become the first unmanned jet fighter of its kind.

New Prototype was introduced during the TeknoFest exhibition in the Turkish city of Samsun. According to a tweet from Baykar Makina’s technical director, Selchuk Bayraktar, the MIUS UAV is ready for actual test flights.

Not many technical details have been revealed regarding this new drone model. But the main feature has been officially revealed: MIUS will use two types of jet engines, AI-322F and AI-25TLT, both are manufactured by the Ukrainian company Motor Sich.

The basic version of MIUS is expected to reach a cruising speed of about 800 km/h, a total flight time of up to 5 hours, and an altitude of up to 12 km. There are also unconfirmed claims that advanced versions of this machine will be able to fly at supersonic speeds.

The drone is not small – it will be able to carry a payload of about 1 ton, which means the drone will be capable of using conventional weapons, including large missiles. If confirmed, such technical features would put MIUS in direct competition with combat aircrafts.

The exact dimensions of the MIUS are not known, but they can be roughly inferred from the officially shared images posted in this article.

The remaining technical characteristics of the MIUS combat UAV are also unknown, except for the fact that the MIUS can act as a “wingmate” in a pair with a manned fighter.
