The IXth UN World Oceans Day Photo Contest


DPG is pleased to announce the grand opening United Nations World Oceans Day 2022 photography competition. The ninth edition of the annual photo contest jointly organized by Division of Ocean Affairs and Law of the Sea United Nations Legal Office (DOALOS), in partnership with Oceanic Globalpresented by Blancpain and supported by DPG.

The competition is led by Ellen Cuylaerts and includes a jury of world-renowned individuals, including wildlife photographer Rathika Ramasamy, conservation photojournalist and marine biologist Siarchai Arunrugstichai, and photographer Siarchai Arunrugstichai. Underwater family Y.Zin Kim.

This free contest has six subject categories open to submission:

  1. Revival
  2. Landscape on the water
  3. Underwater landscape
  4. Nature-based solutions & ocean exploration
  5. Marine
  6. Coastal community

In this year’s edition, we will be retaining our previous two categories— “Overwater Seascapes” and “Underwater Seascapes”. In keeping with this year’s United Nations World Oceans Day theme, “Revival: Collective Action for Oceans”, the competition will introduce four new categories: “Revival”, in which Entries will require a trio of images, “Coastal Communities”, “Marine Life” and “Nature Based Solutions & Ocean Exploration”. These categories are intended to encourage photographers interpretation and artistic vision.

The winner will be announced by the jury at this year’s competition UN World Oceans Day 2022 event, taking place at UN Headquarters in New York (and televised live) on June 8, 2022. Photos of the 2021 finalists will be on-site at UN Headquarters. . As contest curator Ellen Cuylaerts put it: “Import your images and share them with the world to inspire people to make a difference, act collectively for the oceans, and contribute to conservation and preserve the oceans that give us life!”
