The big problem of AI in photography that no one has mentioned yet

The advancement of AI in photography and videography has come faster than many are comfortable with. But there is one un-discussed issue that could have major consequences for the industry.

Throughout my photography journey, I’ve always found that editing is just as important, if not more important, than actually taking the photo. To that end, I spent more time honing my skills in front of the computer than behind the camera. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love photography and nothing gives me more joy than being in nature with just me, my gear and the landscape in front of me. That said, I’ve always felt that post-production is really where I can separate myself from the crowd, so that’s how I try to stay ahead. It turned out to be an easy task, as the development of AI quickly overtook me. A lot has been said about how AI is disrupting the industry, but there is one topic that has yet to be considered and that is one that could have major ramifications.

Which brings us to this amazing video by Taylor Jackson in which he discusses the current problem: AI has become so complex and real that photographers are just starting to think about buying the camera. Their first photo may be so intimidated by the quality of the AI and its capabilities that they don’t bother buying gear or starting their journey. For instance, it makes sense to think about what you can do with AI programs like Midjourney. If Jackson is right in his thinking, this could have a big impact on the sales of major manufacturers like Canon and Sony. What do you think? Have you tried AI yet? Let me know in the comments below.
