The hype and hate surrounding the Leica Q2


Some brands appeal to vitriol to an inscrutable degree. Often, they are expensive brands that many photographers don’t believe can justify their prices. At the top of that list is Leica, however, the brand still has devoted followers and followers.

My regular readers — and at least three — will remember my first turn with Leica. A few years ago, I wrote an article about Leica and criticized the brand’s pricing. In the best of fashion, Leica invited me to their London office to try out the camera and learn about what they do, and I accepted. While I assume that some of the products they make are priced in a way that I cannot justify, a lot of their products are not. In fact, using some of their cameras, even just around the street next to their office, I feel like I finally understand why Leica has such a huge following. There To be After all, there is something special about shooting with their camera.

However, Leica is a polarizing brand among photographers, revered by many and labeled as expensive by many others. In this video, Evan Ranft mainly discusses Leica Q2, a compact body with a fixed lens but with a spec sheet that will impress even the most staunch detractors. This camera is currently trending especially with YouTubers, attracting more fans and more haters. At $5,795 for a compact, fixed-lens camera, you can see why people resent it. However, if you haven’t tried it, your hate will not carry the same weight.
