The dog ran away after disappearing with the pet sitter
Leaving a pet with a new sitter can be stressful, but usually, there’s nothing to worry about. However, sometimes nightmares happen when Unreliable pet sitters get a dog.
Diego Chaves thinks he did the right thing by leaving his Goldendoodle named Mac with a “professional babysitter”. But as it turns out, he should do a little more research first. The custodian was not who she claimed to be, and Mac was lost and subsequently passed away as a result of her actions. It’s unclear exactly what happened, but Mac deserves justice.
Unexpected red flag
Chaves and his girlfriend had been out of town for a few days, so they found a pet sitter who lived in a nearby New Jersey high-rise. The custodian was named “Alyssa,” and Chaves said there were no red flags at first. She meets them outside the building and takes Mac home to care.
At first, Alyssa sent the couple an update, so Chaves felt comfortable knowing the Mac was fine. But when he returned to pick up Mac on July 4, things took a turn for the worse. Despite saying she would meet him in 15 minutes, Alyssa never showed up at the rendezvous point. Chaves waited several hours before realizing he was possessed.
Then, a day later, Chaves received an email from Alyssa explaining the situation. She said Mac ran away while she was releasing another dog and her phone broke in the process. She didn’t send an email right away because she thought she might find the Mac first. Chaves hesitated to believe the story because she never reported the loss of the dog to Mac. He also didn’t hear from her after that.
So Chaves decided to do a little more research on “Alyssa”. As it turns out, several other people have told stories of her abandoning their dogs and not responding to texts. It is also suspected that her real name is “Micaela”, although she has used many names. So not only was Chaves’ dog missing, but so was the pet sitter.
Mac’s Mysterious Passage
The night after Mac went missing, Chaves received a call from a nearby vet informing him that the dog had been found. So Chaves rushed to the vet to see his beloved dog, but sadly, Mac didn’t make it in time. It’s not clear what happened to the puppy, but Chaves wanted answers. However, he doesn’t want his followers harassing the babysitter, especially when he doesn’t know all the facts.
“After running to the vet, we were told that Mac had unfortunately passed away. Please do not take this as a sign of harassment or intimidation. For now, we’re just asking for time to mourn the loss of our Mac,” Chaves wrote on Facebook. “Again, I can’t thank everyone for all the help and support we’ve received and we’re sorry we weren’t able to keep up with the good news.”
The Jersey City Police Department is involved, but they have yet to locate Alyssa/Micaela. She runs a business called Posh Pet Service in New Jersey. Hopefully, this story will remind dog parents to do extensive research before leaving their furry friend alone with a stranger.
Rest in peace, Mac.
