MAPPA chainsaw man it’s fun to watch from start to finish every week because the show, in a feat that has turned around both an impressive budget and a tireless team of animators (MAPPA, take a break), showcases a New artist and ending animation for each episode. However, not all songs are created equal.
Obviously, this list will be subjective, as this is not what I personally enjoy hearing or watching. However, my taste in music is impeccable. Therefore, this list is objective perfection and undeniable truth in terms of the best chainsaw man finish.
- “Blood of chainsaws” – Vaundy (Episode 1)
Perhaps because it is the ending of the first volume, “Chainsaw Blood” is the weakest of the twelve episodes. Its tone isn’t memorable to me, even though I’ve heard it many times, and the animation sequence is more or less a compilation of scenes from the episode. When I first watched it, I remember feeling more nervous than excited at the idea that chainsaw man there will be a different ending each time.
- “Violence” – Queen Bee (Episode 11)
“Violence” for me is about as problematic as “Chainsaw Blood,” in that the hook and overall tone don’t stand out to me. While the angles in the animation are really cool, it’s not very fun to watch. Since Episode 11 is a breath-taking episode before the finale, it fits that mood. But in the end, it’s still a pretty forgettable ending.
- “Deep Down” – Aimer (Episode 9)
When I say I’m most surprised Aimer is this far off the list, I’m being honest. Right after MAPPA announced that Aimer will be one of the artists contributing the ending song for chainsaw man, I think she will definitely make the top five. But it is slow and sometimes loses the hook. In fact, Aimer’s opening cho NieR Automata cartoon nor is it a personal favorite of her previous songs. While the grainy vintage feel of the animation ended up being neat, it felt more like watching a more experimental anime that I stumbled across at 3am than anything.
- “Meeting Point” – Kanaria (Episode 6)
“Rendezvous” has a really fun and relaxed atmosphere. It’s like a song I’ll listen to when I’m working or something that I’ll put on as background music. The Escher staircase-like sequence, in keeping with the Evil of Eternity the group is facing, is fun to watch. Close-up of Aki’s eyes turning into stairs? Love to see it.
- TK’s “First Death” – Ling Tosite Sigure (Episode 8)
The only real reason I think this ending is better than “Rendezvous” is because the animation sequence, especially after what happened in Episode 8, is really great. Ling Tosite Sigure has a very interesting sound that suits chainsaw manatmosphere of. Plus, the song’s fast tempo is a great combination for both the visuals and the feeling after Himeno’s match with Katana Man.
- “Chu” – Tayousei – Ano (Episode 7)
As a song, “Chu – Tayousei” is like something from the mid-2000s, and the old-school video game-inspired animation sequence only adds to that sense of nostalgia. The psychedelic barf is a fun image, even if it’s pretty gross to see. It’s a fun ending to watch! It also has a funky rhythm and melody that won’t match any other episode than Episode 7, which is a really enjoyable episode for most of its length.
- “Tablet Computer” – Tooboe (Episode 4)
“Tablets” are fun! The accompanying visuals of the Power dance and pose are really great to watch and MAPPA did a great job in animating it all. In fact, this is the part where I start to really worry for the MAPPA animators, as Episode 4 also features one of the best hair tie animations I’ve seen in anime. While the song is almost forgettable for me, it makes up for it with a joy to watch.
- “Remaining Time” – Zutomayo (Episode 2)
When “Time Left” started after the slightly disappointing song “Chainsaw Blood”, I also prepared myself not to enjoy the song. But the hook was a pleasant surprise! The animated series also has a really cute style, a bit reminiscent of lo-fi streams on YouTube, and is really fun to watch. While “Chainsaw Blood” fits the show’s atmosphere better and thus deserves a first installment (even if I didn’t like it), “Time Left” is a great sequel.
- “Fighting Song” – Eve (Episode 12)
Eve was also an artist I liked before chainsaw man but, like with Aimer, I found the “Fighting Song” to be just ‘fine’. However, the reason why it ranks so high on the list is because of how cute the ending animation is. The little Hayakawa family is adorable and they’re all just hanging out and eating which is a great end to the show before Season 2. Do I think the visuals and music match? Incorrect. But since both the sequence and the song feel so smooth (the intro, verse, and chorus are all at the same basic level of excitement), they work together in a way.
- “In the Backroom” – Syudou (Episode 5)
Syudou, like half of the artists on this list, is someone with an exceptional sound who is always cheerful. The hook for “In the Backroom” is fun, and while the animation straddles the line between ‘surreal’ and ‘mess’, it matches just how bizarre the Eternal Devils hotel is. . This high-ranking “In the Backroom” was a surprise to me when I made this list, but it deserves it.
- “Hawatari Nioku Centi” – Maximizing Hormones (Episode 3)
Maximum the Hormone is a really funny band because half the time I listen to their songs, my initial knee-jerk reaction is “I don’t like this” until the third listen. Then, miraculously, the song became one of the best I’ve ever heard. That is exactly what happened to me with “Hawatari Nioku Centi.” A big part of my liking for this song over time is because MAPPA actually used part of it in the episodes. Listening to it in a more fast-paced setting, I opened my eyes to how amazing the hype of the first and second half of the song was. The song’s change of timbre in sync with Makima dressed as an angel creates a wonderful and memorable contrast.
- “Dogland” – Person 1 (Episode 10)
Okay, I admit that the visuals for this ending aren’t as compelling as “Tablet” or even Maximum the Hormone’s. However, the song completely slaps. When I first heard this, I gasped when it started and then I immediately subscribed to People 1’s YouTube channel. This song is full of energy throughout and even though the animation isn’t. as impressive as some of the other endings on the list, I still enjoyed watching it. However, if the mention of dogs is because Denji resembles Makima’s dog (which the opening also alludes to), then I wish MAPPA used this song in an episode where Makima is actively trying to influence Denji. do something.
