Jimbo Fisher’s name was raised as a potential choice to replace Ed Orgeron at LSU. However, Fisher wanted to make it clear: He had no interest in taking the position.
“I’ve told everyone I’m here and I’ve told everyone that I plan to be a coach at A&M,” Fisher said at a press conference on Monday.
While it may seem as glamorous as LSU’s coaching job, Fisher says there are countless reasons why he isn’t planning on leaving College Station. He cites the leadership of Texas A&M, his family’s enjoyment of living in Texas and even coffee as reasons to stay.

But above all, Fisher thinks it would be foolish to leave for a great cause.
“We’re taking on an unbelievable class this year,” Fisher said. “So I’m either the dumbest human on earth of God who’s going to recruit all these people into A&M so I can walk across here and fight them. If I do, all of you. would say, ‘That’s the dumbest man ever. I don’t want him to be my coach.'”
Fisher has a point. Texas A&M has the third best hiring team in the nation to date, according to 247Sports.com. It has two five-star players and 13 four-star players set to join the program. Only Georgia and Alabama have more.

Meanwhile, LSU ranks 12th. Like Texas A&M, LSU has two five-star rookies. However, the tigers only have 4 4-star rooks and can’t add significantly more until they decide on a trainer.
Orgeron would eventually leave LSU, but the two sides agreed to end the season before parting ways. That can delay the bottom line of any potential replacement hires and complicate the hiring process further.

Either way, Fisher doesn’t appear to want to return to LSU despite seven years as offensive coordinator under Nick Saban and Les Miles.
“I wanted to be at A&M,” Fisher said. “I plan to stay at A&M. I’m not going anywhere and don’t want to be anywhere else. I like being right here.”
