The RSM Classic 2022 is the last PGA Tour event of the calendar year before the tournament is on hiatus until early January. Golfers will be looking to accumulate some FedEx Cup points, as well as motivation, head into the holiday season and the game will kick off Thursday from Southeast Georgia. Sea Island Golf Club will host the 2022 RSM Classic, with play split between the Par-70 Seaside Course and Par-72 Plantation Course.
Tony Finau got the momentum going as winner in Houston last week, and he’s the favorite with a 9-1 hit in the latest RSM Classic odds. Other contenders include Brian Harman (18-1), Tom Hoge (20-1) and the resurgent Jason Day (January 22). Robert Streb, the only two-time winner in tournament history (2014, 2020) is a 200-1 underdog. Top RSM Classic 2022 predictions
The one big surprise this model is calling for at RSM Classic: Day 2022, a 12-time PGA Tour champion and one of the most-favorite top contenders with a 22-1 scoreline, stumbles in this week and barely broke into the top 10. Day is a former No. 1 but hasn’t won a win since the 2018 season, when he dropped to 175th in the world just a month ago. But he is still as brilliant as he has been for many years and has finished in the top 25 in each of his four events this season. While the model thinks that streak continues, winning the tournament won’t be as optimistic, in part because he’s not as successful on this course.
Day missed last year’s tournament and finished 50th or worse on two of the three attempts to take the course. While his resurgence was inspired by a great long match, the Australian was really struggling in the short match. Day ranked outside the top 100 in terms of strokes achieved: green space (0.031) and outside the top 90 in terms of strokes achieved: putts (0.101). A low score will be necessary to win here but Day’s inconsistency around and on the green is a huge red flag.
Another surprise: Joel Dahmen, the 40-1 ranger, has come very far to the title. He’s a target for anyone looking for a good payday.
Dahmen is consistently finishing in the top 10, and he has four top 25 finishes in his last five tournaments. 12 of his last 14 rounds have resulted in equal or better results, with the two exceptions being just over one point each.
The Washington native is one of the most well-rounded golfers on tour. He ranks among the top 20% of the PGA Tour in the following stroke categories: off tee, tee to green, green approach and surrounding area green. He’s also among the top 15% (real) GPA (68.50), which shows he has what it takes to shoot the low numbers needed to contest.
