Tesla raises prices, Volvo-Starbucks charging network, US Mercedes-Benz provide batteries: Car News Today
Tesla prices are up again. Mercedes-Benz will equip US-made batteries for US-made electric SUVs. And Volvo is choosing Starbucks to test its network of fast-charging stations. This and more, here at Green Car Report.
Volvo’s Plan for a Pilot EV charging network will have a Starbucks at every stop. The program will add up to 60 ChargePoint DC fast chargers at 15 stores, initially along a 1,350-mile route between Seattle and Denver. For those of us who would rather skip the huge parking lots, let’s hope this idea works.
Mercedes-Benz is turning to a Japanese, Chinese-owned battery supplier for Nissan Leaf — Envision AESC — as a partner for a battery facility in Georgia that will supply batteries for All-electric EQS and EQE SUV models built in Alabama. Mercedes emphasized that the Alabama plant will serve as an “export hub” for luxury SUVs in the electronic age.
And Tesla has raised the price again, with the base price this time increasing from $2,000 to $12,500, depending on the model. That makes the Base Model 3 $49,690 today — a third more than it was a year ago this time. And the entry price of a Model Y Long Range is now $62,990.
