Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has revealed that young people account for almost 50% of the 14,308 road accident deaths recorded in Malaysia between 2019 and 2021, as reported by the Malaysian government. Bernama and Berita Harian.

He noted that an average of 4,769 lives were lost each year during this period, with an average of 7,077 youth cases. Ismail Sabri said: “This statistic shows that young people are exposed to higher risks while on the road and it is a challenge for enforcers to curb this trend.

To meet this challenge, Ismail Sabri said the ministry of road transport (JPJ) should organize more advocacy and engagement programs in line with the government’s desire to reduce the fatality rate by 50%. road traffic accidents by 2030.

The Prime Minister was speaking at the Malaysian Family Driver’s License Support Program (BLKM), which saw 404 Orang Asli residents from the district selected under the scheme to obtain a motor vehicle license with minimum cost.
