Teddy Atlas to Joyce: “He will KO Joshua
Teddy Atlas, the renowned boxing coach and analyst, talked about British heavyweight Joe Joyce and his potential path to a world title.
Atlas hasn’t been full of praise for Joyce lately, after his win over Christian Hammer he called Brit ‘slow’ and ‘predictable’:
“He shoots well, and he has to shoot well because he lacks technique in certain areas, especially defensively.”
“He’s a good puncher, a heavyweight, he’s not a quick puncher but he’s a heavy hitter with a stick and he can knock you down because of him constantly. rush at you.”
“He’s slow, he’s predictable, he’s one-sided, his feet aren’t fast so him and Tyson Fury seem unrealistic. The only real thing about it is that they’re both on the other side of the pond. “
However, on latest episode of his podcast ‘The Fight’The American said he believes the 36-year-old has a shot at winning the world title:
“I see his toughness and I see his restlessness, it’s a quality, it’s a quality and an ability.”
“I see him fitting in there and fighting for the world title next year.”
“I may have seen him fight Fury but I think Fury is retired.”
“If Dillian Whyte against Fury can get almost a hundred thousand people into Wembley, then Joe Joyce can too, but I can’t see him beating Fury.”
Atlas was asked about whether Chisora would be a good match for ‘The Juggernaut’:
“I think Joyce might be a little too young, too big, a little too strong.”
“But you know what, Chisora doesn’t know what to do other than make war and fight great. It will be
fun but i see him [Chisora] coming out shortly. “
The legendary trainer went on to say that a ‘penalty shootout’ against the ‘Bronze Bomber would be explosive:
“I don’t think they’ll do it, because they know what I know, it’s dangerous, but I would love to see a gunfight between Joyce and Wilder – it’s going to be a hell of a fight. “
The American commentator then made a bold prediction of a potential all-British Joyce and Joshua showdown:
“Joe Joyce can finish the bout with winners Usyk and Joshua.”
“I’ll tell you one thing that I think he knocked Joshua down.”
“How does that feel for you Brits? Put that in your pipe and smoke it.”
Joe Joyce is expected to return to the ring this September with an unannounced opponent.
