Saints defender Taysom Hill injured the finger on his pitching hand Thursday night when that hand struck the arm of a Cowboys defender. He played the rest of the game, which the Saints ultimately lost 27-17.
On Friday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Hill suffered a mallet finger injury similar to the one Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson suffered earlier this season.

Hill made his first game of the season at quarterback for New Orleans on Thursday. He sealed the score 3-1 at the start of last season in place of the injured Drew Brees.

What is a mallet finger?
Mallet finger injuries are not common in football, but Russell Wilson has picked up one in Week 5 of this season. According to Summit Orthopedics, mallet finger is a finger joint injury that occurs when an object hits the finger, thereby tearing the tendon on the tip (or nail surface) of the finger.
