Another gacha Tales game biting the dust
Bandai Namco has announced its sudden closure Tales of LuminariaMobile RPG set in the expanded Tales universe. Tales of Luminaria will see one more update later this month, before its servers close worldwide on July 19, 2022.
“We regret to announce that the service for Tales of Luminaria will be sunset on July 19, 2022 PDT,” Read a statement on the game’s website. “As the first fully original mobile title in the “Tales of” series, our sincere aim is to make this game fun and, by taking on a variety of challenges, bring “Tales of” is reaching more audiences around the world, not just Japan. ”
“In addition, we have been trying our best to make this service playable for a long time, encouraged by the supportive comments and feedback we receive on SNS. However, we couldn’t do enough, and we sincerely apologize to everyone who supported and played Tales of Luminaria. ”
The news comes as an “inevitable surprise” – if you will. Tales of Luminaria just one seven months old, was launched in November 2021 and therefore its lifespan is still very young. However, Luminaria is one of a series of Stories– themed gacha trophies to hit the slide in less than five years. Luminaria stand in front Tales of CrestoriaReleased in 2020 and closed in February this year.
While a remaining story update has been scheduled for the Version 1.6 update in May, the developer has fully clarified that the story of Tales of Luminaria will not be completed, leaving many character themes dangling and stories untold after the server is down. This is clearly an uncomfortable situation for developers and players alike, and with the recent trend of slowing down gacha titles, investing in any future releases should be avoided.
