Taiwan and US hold trade talks on Monday

The Office of the United States Trade Representative said Taiwan and the United States will hold trade talks on Monday under a newly agreed framework.
Deputy US Trade Representative Sarah Bianchi will meet the island’s top trade negotiator, John Deng, to discuss a 21st-century trade initiative, her office said, without provide details.
The initiative was announced this month, just days after the Biden administration removed the Chinese-claimed island from an Asia-focused economic plan designed to counter growing influence. growth of China, the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework, or IPEF.
Deng told Reuters that Taiwan still hopes to eventually reach a free trade agreement with the United States.
The United States has no formal ties with Taiwan, a major semiconductor producer, but has stepped up engagement as China seeks to isolate it from global institutions.
