Another success Colony Downs race meeting will culminate on Virginia Derby Day on September 6, marked by dedication to the Post-Pure Care Coalition.
The Woodford Reserve Kitten (G3T) Joy Stock will be awarded by the Post-Breed Care Alliance on Virginia Derby Day. A presentation of a TAA blanket and crossbody bag will be made for the winning connections after the race.
“We are delighted to be partnering again with TAA in sponsoring Kitten’s Joy Stakes,” said Jill Byrne, Colonial Downs Vice President of Racing Operations. “We appreciate and appreciate the importance of what TAA has to offer to the industry and are pleased to acknowledge their great efforts on our biggest day of the year, especially with the race named after one of the greatest Virginia Derby winners ever.”
The TAA will host the Best Horse Awards sponsored by the Virginia Layman’s Benevolent Authority for every stake race on the September 6 card.
The winning groom of the Virginia HBPA-sponsored Best Spinning Horse award will receive a $100 cash prize and a TAA crossbody bag and will be broadcast live on the street simulcast feed Racing New Kent, Va.,.

Started in 2019, Colonial Downs and Virginia HBPA each pledged $15 each at Colonial Downs meeting with TAA.
“Both Colonial Downs and Virginia HBPA are staunch supporters of the TAA and we are grateful that they periodically include TAA on Virginia Derby Day,” said TAA President Jeffrey Bloom. “We look forward to this event every year and it offers the opportunity to work alongside TAA supporting racetracks and rider groups to promote thoroughbred post-care.”
