Surprised Man With End-Stage Cancer With Wheelchair For Dog

According to doctors, Andrew Kuzyk, a resident of Georgia, has only a year to live. However, before he died, his most wanted thing was not for himself but for Champ, the precious dog that helped him face his daily battle with many types of cancer.

More than anything, Andrew wants Chihuahua Champion to get a wheelchair because his furry best bud was born without front paws. So to make Champ’s life easier, the dog’s proud father worked to raise money to buy Champ a wheelchair. But a recent surprise from retailer Chewy changed everything.

GoFundMe

A bond that is “Meant to Be”

After a car accident left him with a headache, Andrew went in for an MRI. He was diagnosed with cancer, but that was not the only case.

“I am what they call an anomaly,” said Andrew 11 is alive. “Stage four brain cancer, melanoma, kidney cancer, bone tumor in my leg.”

And the treatments were expensive, Andrew explains: “We lost our home in Arizona and had to sell almost everything. We had to pay for all the drugs and other things.

But Champ kept Andrew going.

“There’s something about when he’s in my lap and when I cuddle him, it’s like a sacred feeling,” Andrew shared. “Like he meant to be with me. I guess because I’m a broken soul, and he’s a broken soul too.”

“I don’t know what my thoughts would be if I didn’t have—if I didn’t have Champ.”

Unexpectedly Make The Last Wish Come True

And with all the love and support Champ has brought into Andrew’s life, he wants to make sure his little boy is taken care of when he’s gone. Because Champ was born without front paws, he hops, but that has consequences for the poor dog.

“Without front legs it is very, very difficult to lie on your back. Harder to find a wheelchair for the front. It broke my heart.”

Despite their illness, Andrew and his wife Pamela worked hard to raise funds for Champ’s wheelchair. But after an interview with 11Alive, reporter Savannah Levis surprised Andrew with a video of Colman Muñoz with Chewy returns.

In the video, Carlos explains online retailer Chewy heard Andrew and Champ’s story and “wanted to help.”

“We know you’ve worked so hard to get Champ’s wheelchair needed and we want to take that burden off you,” Carlos said. “We’ll give you a front-assist wheelchair, toys, snacks and some other goodies for Champ.”

Upon receiving the news, Andrew shared with emotion: “It was the best thing anyone has ever done for us. I don’t even have a word.”

Thanks to Chewy’s generosity, all the money Andrew received to buy a wheelchair can now be used to pay Andrew’s medical bills.
