Amid growing cases of online scams across the country, a disturbing report has revealed the plight of a 37-year-old woman in Navi Mumbai, who became a victim of a Sophisticated online scams, leading to more staggering losses $54 thousand. The woman, who was on maternity leave, was looking for extra income through freelance work, but then became trapped in a web of scams orchestrated by online scammers.

According to a PTI report, the victim’s search for additional income led her to explore online job opportunities. Meeting individuals intent on freelancing, she embarks on a purposeful quest that involves reviewing restaurants and companies for lucrative rewards. Initially promised substantial compensation for completing just five tasks, the victim agreed to the arrangement.

The scammers then offer instructions and provide links to rate restaurants and hotels, gradually luring victims into a deeper financial spiral. Under the guise of an investment opportunity with the promise of exorbitant profits, the perpetrator forced the victim to transfer money, causing an alarming situation. $54 lakhs, across multiple accounts.

These transactions took place between May 7 and May 10 of the current year. After completing her scheduled obligations and attempting to claim her due payments, the victim had to remain silent and hide from the scammers, leading her to realize she had been scammed.

Take action and preventative measures:

Quickly realizing the severity of the situation, the victim promptly reported the incident to the cyber police in Navi Mumbai. An official complaint was subsequently registered, leading to the initiation of legal proceedings against four unidentified individuals for fraud.

In light of this disturbing incident, it is imperative that individuals exercise caution and take precautions to protect against falling victim to similar online scams.
