Surgeon explains complex surgery on Marquez

Surgery Marc Marquez

Marc Marquez completed surgery on his right bone at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. The medical team deemed the operation a success as Marquez began to recover.

Lasting three hours, Dr. Joaquin Sanchez Sotelo and his team performed a jaw osteotomy. The surgery was assessed by Dr. Sanchez Sotelo as a success without complications when Marc Marquez entered the post-operative phase of treatment at the Mayo Clinic.

Marquez will remain in the US in the coming days to ensure an immediate recovery from surgery before returning to Spain to continue her treatment plan.

Today we had the opportunity to properly operate on Mr. Marc Marquez’s character. The procedure is completed in about three hours.

“Despite the complexity of the procedure, the end result is gratifying.

“The surgery consisted of removing the two proximal screws of the posterior disc that Dr Samuel Antuña had previously placed in December 2020, followed by rotator cuff surgery.

“The procedure involves creating a cross-section of the hip bone to rotate the hip bone along its long axis. The number of rotations made today is about 30 degrees of external rotation.

“The shoulder blade was stabilized in the new position using an anterior plate with multiple screws. The surgery was completed in an unusual way. We wish Mr. Marquez a speedy recovery and a successful return to his professional career. ”
