Subaru Impreza: What to expect from the Australian range

New generation Subaru Impreza 2024 has been confirmed for the Australian market and Expression of interest is opened – it’s just a matter of When it comes now.

There are few details on what to expect for the Australian market in terms of lineup and variant pricing, although we’ve been given some clues.

Subaru Australia recently confirmed the new Impreza will offer a new 11.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as wireless phone charging.

Furthermore, the latest EyeSight driver assistance kit and the brand’s signature all-wheel drive system will be standard.

News for us? Not really – related diagonal line offers similar and has been detailed many months ago, before an Australian arrives next month.

However, the brand’s home country of Japan can give us a clearer picture of what to expect from the local lineup.

A range of three different trim levels is offered in the Japanese market, with both the regular petrol and e-Boxer Hybrid powertrains offered depending on the trim level.

Front- and all-wheel drive options are also available in the Japanese domestic market – although most Subaru products are AWD-only in export regions.

In Japan, there are three distinct trim levels – ST, ST-G and ST-H – matching the upcoming Australian release, including 2.0iL, 2.0i Premium and 2.0iS versions.

All versions get LED headlights and 17-inch alloy wheels, while midsize and premium models get a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a vertical 11.6-inch touchscreen – the latter should be standard in Australia.

Top models in Japan also feature high-spec full-LED headlights with adaptive beam and cornering lights.

The Japanese-market ST-G and ST-H also come standard with the 2.0-liter e-Boxer Hybrid powertrain, which combines the base model’s 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder with a 10kW/65Nm electric motor and 4.8Ah lithium battery.

Subaru Australia hasn’t confirmed whether the 2024 model will be the first Impreza to offer hybrid power, based on the Crosstrek and larger forester both offer e-Boxer variants.

As mentioned earlier, both petrol 2.0 liter And 2.0 liter e-Boxer Hybrid The powertrain is available overseas.

The standard petrol powertrain only evolved 113kW (6000 rpm) and 193Nm (4000rpm), while the combo setup produces a bit less – 107kW (6000 rpm) and 188Nm (4000 rpm).

Both engines are mated to a CVT automatic transmission. Gasoline has eight virtual ratios compared to the Hybrid’s seven; although we consider the e-motor substitutes to be starters.

Subaru’s Japanese website doesn’t have detailed fuel economy data, but the heavier Crosstrek 2.0 AWD models use 7.2L/100km on the ADR cycle, while the Hybrid models use 6.5L/ 100km.

The 2.5-liter engine is available in North America, although the engine is not offered in Japan as standard US models are assembled at the brand’s Lafayette facility in Indiana.

With the new Impreza being marketed as a 2024 model by the Australian subsidiary, expect the new small car to arrive sometime in the second half of the year.

The go range is a pretty value-driven option, starting at $26,490 and going as high as $32,790 despite offering standard all-wheel drive.

Expect a small price increase to the new range against the outgoing pattern. Crosstrek has raised $1800-$3000 on most variants, so we expect the same for the Impreza to be concerned. We are anticipating a price range that starts just under $30,000 and peaks just below $40,000.

If the brand’s local arm can secure the Impreza Hybrid for Australia, it will be one of the few electrified offerings in its class. The Toyota Corolla hybrid basically has the segment to itself, with Mazda 3 M hybrid leaving the market soon and Hyundai i30 Sedan Hybrid not until the end of the year.
